A light in the name of someone you miss
There is no good gift for an absence. What you can do is give a name to something that lasts longer than we do. Most of the nebulae on this page are what a star leaves behind as it goes out: matter that travels on, elsewhere, to form other stars. Many people choose the date of birth rather than the date of death. The dedication is symbolic, and we say so plainly: it gives nothing back and replaces nothing. It only offers a place in the sky to put a name.
