The Lagoon drifts in Sagittarius, toward the center of our galaxy. Under a good summer sky, you can just make it out with the naked eye: a pale mist resting on the Milky Way. It takes its name from the dark channel that runs through it, like still water between two shores of light. Gentle, warm, soothing.
